On Jan. 19, 2007 representatives of the James Miller Camp assembled in downtown Monroe and read a proclamation to commemorate the 200th birthday of our beloved General Robert E. Lee. |

On Nov. 8th and 9th 2009, The Miller Camp Members will be dishing up Marinated Turkey Tenderloins at the Monroe Warriors and Warbir event, Hope to see you there.
On Sat., April 25th 2009 the James Miller Memorial Service had an honor ceremony for James M. Miller. Along with 4 camp members, we had about 20 other guest in attendance including many kinfolk of the Miller family. The cite was improved with flowers around the flag pole by Commander Chapman and LT Commander Brian Mattox.
On July 16th 2009 the Miller Camp was honored at Logan’s Restaurant by Ms Mattie Rice, daughter of Weary Clyburn for the camps work on her fathers grave site. It was great to see 6 of our members in attendance. On Sat. Morning July, 18th Worth Barbee and Commander Chapman met Ms Rice at the cemetery as she was able to see the grave for the first time. My thanks to Worth and Scott Barbee for keeping the grave clean.
On Aug. 6th Patricia Poland gave an excellent talk on another Black Confederate Veteran buried in Union County. Our next speaker for Sept 3rd will be Commander Joel Fesperman from Albemarle.
On Sept. 15th, Commander Chapman attended the NC general executive meeting in Salisbury. There were about 100 SCV members in attendance from all around the state. Commander Chapman was appointed to chair the NC Sesquicentennial committee.

On April 1st We had 26 in attendance for the Greg Mast Program. PHOTOGRAPHS OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS A program by Greg Mast author “State Troops and Volunteers: A Photographic Record of North Carolina’s Civil War Soldiers,” .is Mast will feature “Tarheels in Color,” ambrotypes that have been colorized, with a special emphasis on Union County’s boys in gray. There will be mystery images of unidentified soldiers – maybe you can help? And if you have any photos of your Confederate ancestors, Mast would love to scan them for a future volume, so plan to bring those!

The James Miller Camp of the Son's of Confederate Veterans will hold a 100 year celebration on Tuesday Aug. 17th at 12:10 pm at the Old Courthouse steps to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the dedication. |
